Electric Series #1

Releasing Oct 11th, 2016

White-hot, blinding, and dangerous.

That's exactly what Volt is.

He's electric.

The first time I met him, my body reacted. It coiled, sizzled, and sparked. I knew I wanted him because he was the first man to make me feel dead and alive at the exact same time.

But within a short conversation, I knew he was unattainable.

Unavailable.

Now we're just friends.

But will we stay friends?

This is the second title by E.L. Todd I've read, so I knew a bit about what to expect in terms of her writing style. And I loved every page in this book! First, the story is told from dual PsOV, which I happen to love. Not only do we get an engaging story about Taylor and Volt, but we get to see how their evolving friendship manages to change the dynamic of their circle, and perhaps a glimpse into the relationship of a secondary couple from their group.

When we meet Volt, he seems to be outgoing and happy with life, especially considering the big move he's about to make. There's an incident that he witnesses that immediately changes his outlook on love. Now he's all dark and brooding, and has copious amount of sex with a revolving cast of willing bedmates. In a professional setting, Volt definitely knows his craft and is passionate about education. And that is the extent of his passion, he refuses to let himself get caught up with feelings for someone else.

We meet Taylor as she's getting settled in New York with her brand new career as a teacher. Taylor is the type of woman who knows what she's looking for in a man and what kind of relationship she wants for herself. Through a work colleague she meets Volt, and while there is attraction on her end at the start, it doesn't take her long to see that she's not the kind of woman who's okay with a one night stand with Volt. She pretty much puts him on blast after he makes a pass at her, and she lets him know in no uncertain terms is she looking to be just another notch on his bedpost.

And with that declaration, a friendship is born. And just when you think you know how the story will play out, it abruptly switches lanes and feelings begin to intensify. But is it too late?

So, in addition to the feelings that have changed, there's also the issue of an ex-significant other and how that person ties into the story. I already know who the ex is although the name is never mentioned (I thought it pretty obvious very early in the story). But....there's another secondary relationship that's come from left field that is surprising, and I'm hoping we get that story at some point in the series, because I think that's going to be another good book. For now I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the next book isn't that far behind because I'm anxious to see how this will all play out.

Edited to add: Shut.The.Front.Door! I had no idea the rest of the books are already available. Thank goodness my 1-click finger is all ready to get some exercise, because I'm about to get this series!

Somehow, without even realizing it, Taylor became my friend.
When I first met her, I thought she was some awkward woman, and then I got to know her better and I wanted to have a one-night stand. But then she told me off and demanded the respect I didn’t give her.
            And boom! We were friends.
I’d never had a friend that was a girl. There was always sex involved, and if sex couldn’t be had, there were some decent hand jobs. Natalie and I were friends, in a way. But I viewed her as Derek’s sister most of the time.
After I got off work, I was walking to my apartment when Taylor texted me.
            The Muffin Girl.
She usually sent me these cryptic text messages, and it was my job to figure out what she was trying to say. Now?
She sent an emoji of a blueberry muffin.
That wasn’t too complicated to decipher. On the way.
She sent me a picture she took of herself. She was shoving the entire muffin into her mouth like a snake that was swallowing a mouse whole.
I chuckled and typed a reply. Damn, that’s sexy.
Then she sent me an emoji of a hand flipping me off.
I laughed then shoved my phone into my pocket. I walked to the bakery and spotted her sitting outside at one of the picnic tables. She wore a long pink dress with a purple cardigan over it, her usual classroom attire. She looked like a stereotypical schoolteacher, classy but also a little nerdy. Her long brown hair was in curls and she wore a large sun hat to keep the sun out of her eyes. She looked like she belonged at the beach—minus the cardigan. “When you start a dating profile, you should make that picture as your profile picture.”
“So no one will be interested in me?”
“No one is going to be interested in you anyway.”
She gave me a playful kick under the table.
“What’s this?” I spotted the coffee and muffin on my side of the table.
“I figured you didn’t want to wait in line.”
“But how did you know I would come?”
She shrugged. “You don’t have any friends besides me so what else would you be doing?”
She made me smile bigger when I didn’t think it was possible. “Touché.”
