It's been a while since I've read a Cora Reilly book, and once I got started with this book I wondered to myself why I haven't been keeping up with her books, because this one is all sorts of fantastic! I enjoy a good mafia romance, but mix in an arranged marriage with two people who are on the extreme ends of the emotion spectrum and you've managed to snag my interest and keep me glued to the book till I finish.
Unfortunately I didn't read the first book in the series (but I will be purchasing it to get caught up). From the prologue we know that Kiara has survived a tragic and brutal past that has shaped her into the woman we meet, and Nino's past is equally tragic and his method of coping has been training himself to not give into his emotions. Not good for Kiara, because she's not sure how to handle that type of situation.
I liked seeing them slowly let the other in and how, while damaged in their own way, were able to bring about some type of peace that was needed and how that helped bring balance. It's a mafia romance but the main gist of the story is about their developing relationship; I do wish there was a bit more of the mafia side woven into the story.
