And then he brings up our childhood promise.

It might be fun and games to him, but it's not to me. Because as much a I don't want to admit it, Sam has always been my first choice. And I don't want to be nothing more than his backup plan.

I was excited to read this, and while it was engaging and entertaining, there got to be a point for me where I was so over all of the miscommunication (or NO communication) between Chloe and Sam. I loved the fact that Chloe stayed true to herself in high school, which is, undoubtedly, one of the most stressful times in a person's life, as you don't know who you are yet and you're trying to figure out if and where you fit in. The fact that she was close friends with Sam Harris and his family was somewhat of a saving grace, especially after the death of her mother.

Through a flashback we see the extent of what happened that was the proverbial nail in the coffin of the friendship between Sam in Chloe back in college, and how much it still affects the both of them now. It's clear there's some chemistry between Chloe and Sam, but it does take a while to get to the beginning of the juiciness of the story, and then we're hit with a cliffhanger. I can only hope that the second book releases in October as I'd like to see how the final scene will be handled.
