Widowed dad Rhodes has no idea who he’s about to meet on the blind date his son set up but can’t stop thinking about the food vlogger he’s been crushing on like a hormonal teenager.
Add in nice-guy ex husbands, meddling co-workers, and food made to make even the strongest man melt, Dee and Rhodes soon discover that while their loved ones may have bought them together, somewhere along the way, fate turned into the real hero of their story.
Can these two singletons trust the hard and fast connection they’ve found, or will the pressure to live up to expectations stop them from being the life changers they both want and need.
USA Today Bestselling Author BJ Harvey brings you Life Changer- Book 2 in a new spin-off to the Cook Brothers rom com series, featuring Chicago first responders fighting the good fight and finding love at the same time. Set in the same world as the Bliss, Game, and Cook Brothers series before it, this title can be read as a complete standalone.
I was excited when I first started reading that this is Rhodes' story, because the bit of background we got when he was introduced in his best friend's Marco's (Show Stopper) story, and this did not disappoint.
While it's not entirely necessary to read the first book, it definitely helps as you'll get a better understanding of the secondary characters in this particular story. Rhodes is the hot, single dad, widower firefighter that's been crushing on local chef and food vlogger Dee Duncan for the last few months. Their initial introduction isn't exactly a meet cute, but it's obvious there is some sort of chemistry between them. Despite them being strangers, they've got such a connection right from the start that it's almost as if they've known each other forever. None of the awkward or stilted pauses, despite them each claiming they're rusty when it comes to the dating scene.
For the most part, it's a pretty straight-forward romance, very little angst until almost the end of the book, and that's because Dee forgot one of their most important, agreed upon rules: always be honest with each other. It wasn't surprising who the character was that gave Dee the insight she needed in order to get things back on track, so even the little bit of angst only lasted maybe a chapter at most. Overall, this is one entertaining story and I'm already excited to read the next book, hopefully it'll be Gio's turn in the hot seat.
