Clara and Zac thought they were headed for their happily ever after, until a break-up slathered in betrayal left them both jaded and vindictive.

Twelve years have passed since they left Wyoming, and during that time Clara found her calling at a prestigious PR firm in California while Zac moved to New Orleans to join his Broussard cousins at River Enterprises. They thought they could forget each other and move on... until a local charity auction in their hometown of Snowy Creek sets Zac up for the ultimate revenge. If he wins, Clara will be at his mercy, forced to work for him for one full week. Tantalized by the sweet taste of revenge, he eagerly ups the ante to claim his prize.

But what starts out as a week of filthy manual labor and bitter rivalry leads to a shocking revelation. Someone has been plotting for over a decade to keep Clara and Zac apart. Can the pair band together to uncover who? Or will their rift from the past continue to ruin their chance at a blissful future?

This is a quick but engaging story and I enjoyed every minute from start to finish. I liked that not a lot of time was spent on what happened with Clara and Zac and the demise of their high school relationship, instead the story focused on the present time frame and how they each dealt with what happened over a decade prior. Both Clara and Zac are proud to a fault, both of them seemingly stubborn in their thought processes when it comes to what they think caused the end of their relationship. While I can certainly understand the apathetic feelings they both had, I thought it so tacky and maybe slightly mean when it came to one of the tasks Zac wanted Clara to do. Why go through that pettiness if you're really over someone the way you claim you are?

I can say that when the first truth came out, it kind of explained the first mystery, but I wasn't prepared for the bombshell that was revealed in conjunction with the first truth. I can understand some of the rationale of why it happened, but the way it went down and the subsequent hurt and anger for that long just wasn't cool. I do wish there'd been more to the rebuilding of the relationship between Zac and Clara as adults, but I liked the way the story wrapped up.
