This is a book you need to read.
This could be read as a stand-alone, but it's better if you read the first book in this series The Viper, and even more helpful if you read the previous series Battered Hearts so that you can understand who everyone is in relation to everyone else.
This isn't a sweet rainbows and unicorns cookie cutter romance, but we do get to see how well opposites attract. Chuito has not had an easy life, and doesn't know what to think about the residents of Garnet, especially his new neighbor Alaine. Despite being told by countless people to stay away from each other, they develop a friendship over the years, although they both have deeper feelings for each other. The chemistry between them...I'm not sure I can adequately describe it, that's how powerful it is.
We all know the road to a HEA is never a straight, smooth one, but damnit this story has a full plate of angst with a side order of drama with a cup of turmoil dipping sauce. Chuito's past is catching up to him with a vengenance and he does what he has to do in order to protect those that he loves. Even Tino's decision has consequences that will stay with him for a long time. But when you're in that life, you gotta do what you gotta do, and do your best to deal with the fallout after. And while it does have its share of heartbreak, there are some funny times in the book as well, like the interactions between Tino and Nova
Now, I will say that this is a lengthy story, but one that is definitely worth having a book hangover for. I am not a morning person; I would prefer my mornings to start somewhere around 1pm. But for this book? I stayed up late and even woke up early to read it, it's just that fantastic. Go 1-click this book now!
