BLOG TOUR & REVIEW - Thick & Thin (Chubby Girl Chronicles #3) by Tabatha Vargo

Title: Thick & Thin
Series: The Chubby Girl Chronicles
Author: Tabatha Vargo
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release: January 21, 2020

Jenny Michaels

We promised to stay best friends through thick and thin, but that was before the kiss that changed it all. Before he went off to war and left me behind angry and bitter. Now he’s back, turning my world upside down, but I’m not the love-sick tomboy he left behind. And even though he always promised through thick and thin, something tells me I’m a little thicker than he had in mind.

Joshua Black

I made promises to Jenny, but I’m not the boy I was when I left for Afghanistan. I’m broken, scarred, and not nearly good enough to hold her heart. I tried to do the right thing and stay away, but my family needs me, which means I have to go home. Jenny hates me, and maybe that’s a good thing because I only want to do right by her. That means keeping my hands off her newly rounded curves. No matter how hard that might be.

I've not read the first two books in this series, but I'm planning on going back to read those two books as well. This particular story can be read as a standalone, and it took me through some emotions. Told in dual first person POV, the first half of the book gives us Josh and Jenny in their last couple of months of high school, and the evolution of their feelings for each other. We see the hesitance of two people who've been by each other's side for 12 years having to face the reality of one going to college and the other going into the military. Events take place the summer after graduation that change the trajectory of both Jenny's and Josh's life in a way no one was prepared for.

The second half of the book brings us to the present timeframe and the changes that both Josh and Jenny have gone through over the three years of not speaking. I had much respect for Jenny because she kept her head held high despite what the hometown residents were saying about her after she dropped out of college. Both Josh and Jenny have their secrets that eventually come to light and we see them find their way back together with a sweet epilogue.

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW - Torrid Little Affair (Forbidden Desires Book 3) by Kendall Ryan

The best way to get over someone is to get under someone else. And I have the perfect candidate all picked out.

My new assistant is tempting beyond belief with her curvy body and take-no-shit attitude. All those luscious curves, and a juicy ass I’m already in love with. God, the things that I would do to that ass…

But it’s the haunted look in her eyes that speaks to me. Like she’s taken just as much shit in her past as I have—maybe more. We both deserve a little fun.

Love can’t fix everything. Mind-blowing sex and a few killer orgasms, on the other hand?

I have a feeling those might do the trick.

I was excited to finally get Cooper's story, especially after what went down in that triangle involving him, Gavin and Emma from the first two books in the series.

This book finds Cooper back in Boston after a six month self-imposed sabbatical. His first meeting with his new assistant couldn't have been more horrendously awkward and potentially lawsuit-worthy than we got to witness. Despite the broken heart Coop is still recovering from, we get to see him in all of his sweet and gentle side, but boy does he know how to wield that dirty mouth in such a hot way! It doesn't take long for him to realize he needs to tread lightly when it comes to Corinne, because this is one woman who is the very embodiment of skittish.

I was looking forward (a bit impatiently) to learning all about Corinne, and man were those layers unveiled slowly. If you read the first two books, you already know about the Kingsley brothers' unsavory childhood, but Corinne's just might be a bit worse than the brothers. I was also really curious about her roommate and how that whole situation came to be.

This is a book with insta-lust, but at the same time it's a slow-building romance. We don't get to see much of Gavin, Emma and Quinn, although it was weirdly nice seeing Gavin in a not quite so brooding manner in this book. Dare I say it, he appeared to be a bit...mellow. He dispensed some sound advice to Cooper, and I liked that Cooper took the words of wisdom to heart.

I was surprised by the revelation about Corinne's roommate, and Cooper's reaction was certainly warranted, until he got the full story. Then we got to see how big Cooper's heart truly is, and I was so glad to see both him and Corinne finally get what they were each seeking: that unconditional love they never got to experience. Now I'll just sit and wait impatiently for Quinn's story!

RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW - Kneel (God of Rock #1) by Eden Butler

Title: Kneel
Series: God of Rock #1
Author: Eden Butler
Genre: Erotic Rockstar Romance
Release Date: November 28, 2017

Dash Justice wrote the songs everyone sings.

His face hangs on every girl’s wall. But Dash wasn’t always a rock God.

Once, he was just Jamie, the boy I loved.

But when my name, sung from his lips promises I was good for only one thing, all sweet thoughts of him die.

Now his excuses mean nothing. His promises are weak and I’m about to show the world that even rock Gods can be brought to their knees.

This book had my heart racing from start to finish, and it's been a while since I've read a book that's caused that reaction. Another reaction I had frequently as I was reading was a strong desire to slap Dash.

This story is told primarily from Iris' point of view, with only the epilogue from Dash's point of view, and I'm hoping that the next book will be primarily told by Dash. We get to see Iris and Dash and the evolution of their friendship to something more when they were in high school, to the eventual demise of them after graduation. I'm not going to rehash the synopsis, but there are a couple of bombshells that are hinted at throughout the book and if you pay attention you'll figure it out before the words are actually spoken. One thing that bothered me was how long it was from when Iris' and Dash's high school romance ended and when the "1221" song was released. Talk about being in your feelings!

Understandable that both Dash and Iris have feelings of ill will towards each other, given what went down a decade earlier, but Iris seems to be paying the price presently with the release of "1221". Her one chance at redemption hinges on an interview with the God of Shock Rock, who apparently despises journalists (and it's not a stretch to figure out his disdain for journalists). There's a secondary reason why Iris is back in Dash's orbit, and that's twist that you might figure out earlier than is revealed in the story.

I have to say I was shocked by Dash's reaction to the twist, especially his retaliation (again!). I thought that act was against the law, but maybe not in all states? In any event, what he did was f*cked up to the nth degree and once the truth was revealed? I don't think there's enough begging and groveling that can be done, but I sure can't wait to get my hands on the next book to find out what's going to happen with Iris and Dash.
