I was excited to read this book since I read Jedrek made his intentions known to King X in the first book, and while I liked this book, I might be in the minority in wishing that this wasn't a menage book, and just a story about Dex and Jedrek, because to me, Laurel didn't bring any necessary element to the story.
I love the dynamics between Dex and Jedrek; Dex is the more playful and outgoing of the two warriors, although there a couple of scenes where we get to see Jedrek loosen up and have a bit of fun and crack a couple of jokes. I loved seeing how their friendship evolved into something more, especially as Dex really began paying attention to the not-so-subtle clues Jedrek (and everyone else) was saying. The sexy times between them was pretty hot and heavy and I loved it!
But this isn't just a straight romance book, because there's also the issue of the attacks against the humans on Zenethia and who's responsible, and that is cleared up with this book; I was surprised by the identity of the mastermind of the plan and how they thought they would be successful in their endeavors. I don't know if this is the end of the series, I'm hoping not because I wouldn't mind seeing a story about Kerta and maybe even Magnar at some point.
The doors slid closed behind Jedrek, and he immediately unbuckled his chestplate. With a twist of his brawny bronzed shoulders he shrugged free, leaving his torso bare.
