So, this is my first foray into the Bennett family, and from the first page I was hooked! It was so easy to fall for Eric, how can you not when you quickly learn that every decision he makes is based on how his choices will affect his 12-year old daughter Julie? The chemistry between Eric and Pippa is electric from the moment they meet, yet there are no awkward times between them, they just immediately clicked. One thing I noticed early on in this book is that both Eric and Pippa didn't try to hide their issues, what with Eric being a widower and Pippa still recovering from her divorce. Another point in favor of this story is that Pippa's family, and even Eric's daughter, are pushing for them to get together. I can understand the reticence from both characters to try and get involved: Eric is in town for a few months, and Pippa's ex is gearing up for another battle in court over their divorce, so that's got her feeling distrustful of men outside her family. What I liked is that they had the support of their families at the unexpected chance of a HEA.

I got a kick out of Amanda's idea to get out of the boring-man rut and have a red-hot fling for one night, especially the fact that she was following the advice of The Handbook: Release Your Inner Temptress and various websites for tips on how to flirt. Unfortunately for Amanda (or fortunately), the gentleman she almost hooks up with is none other than her boss, the same man she's been in love with for 3 years.

As the oldest Bad, Mick has been the backbone of his family for more than half his life, and because of those early years when his family fell apart, Mick doesn't feel like he's able to commit to a relationship, given the way his parents marriage fell apart. A chance encounter during a masquerade bar crawl ends up forever changing his view on relationships and marriage.

I thought this was a sweet love story, in which both Amanda and Mick are in love with each other, but neither one ever dared cross that line for fear of the repercussions. Amanda is the kind of clueless sexy: she doesn't even realize how sexy her innocence is. And her innocence seems to bring out the feelings and emotions that Mick has suppressed since the death of his younger sister many years earlier. All it takes is one weekend with Amanda for Mick to see that he really does deserve a chance at being happy in a relationship.
