Entertaining story, that for me, had a bit of a slow start, but it started to pick up a bit once Cayne was introduced. Julia and Cayne team up (albeit reluctantly), to hunt down Samyaza, a half-demon who wants Julia dead. Cayne is hunting down the half-demon to kill him. Fairly early in the book we learn that Julia has the Sight and healing powers, but's as much as she knows. Cayne knows more about what she truly is, especially since he knows about her birthmark, but he doesn't want to give up any information.

There were a few times that I found myself thinking "enough with the damn pink Converse already", but then I thought back to when I was 17 and yeah, I pretty much remember being all about clothes and shoes, so I couldn't really find fault after that. Julia is an emotional character, but hell, after everything she's endured I was impressed that she didn't end a basket case. I enjoyed watching how the relationship between Julia and Cayne developed, and it's going to be interesting how the rest of the series pans out.
