Real bad boys can grow up to be real
good men.
Hit hard by
the death of her parents, Paige Ryan needs to figure out what to do with her
life. She moves to Whispering Springs, Texas, to be near her step-brother. But
just as she starts to get her life on track, the last man she ever wanted to
see again sends it right back off the rails.
Cash
Montgomery was on the cusp of having it all. Three bull riding titles, fame,
fortune and respect from his family. Until a bad bull leaves him injured, angry
and searching for comfort at the bottom of a bottle. With nowhere to go, he
moves into his sister-in-law’s old ranch house in Whispering Springs—which he’s
surprised to find already occupied.
As Cash
rebuilds the dilapidated home and Paige starts out on her medical career, their
old friendship begins to reemerge and sparks are ignited. Paige knows that Cash
is nothing but a heartache waiting to happen. But maybe this bad boy has grown
up to be a real good man?
Warning: Watch out for falling
lumber, falling in holes, and falling for the wrong guy…again. You can leave
your hard hat on.
REVIEW:
Entertaining read that doesn't have a whole lot of unnecessary drama within. The characters are fairly well developed, but the author provides just enough information on most of the minor characters so that you don't feel completely confused trying to figure them out.
I liked how the characters were written, there wasn't any animosity between anyone, not even Paige and Cash, and Paige had every right to feel bitter towards Cash. But truthfully she still has feelings for him, even after seven years. Cash didn't want to admit to the feelings he had for Paige when they hooked up 7 years earlier, and knew he was nothing more than a jerk towards her back then, but feels that he has no future to offer her since his horrific and career-ending injuries he suffered during his last rodeo performance.
I was even further impressed that Paige didn't waste time playing games with Cash; she let him know up front what she wanted, even if was only for the summer until she went back to school. But as we know what happens in these romance stories, feelings develop fairly quickly and sometimes it makes the book seem unbelievable, luckily for this story Paige and Cash already have a history, so it seemed much more realistic when feelings began to develop into something more for each of them. I did enjoy Cash's reaction whenever Paige would go out on a date with the new deputy in town.
Overall a cute story, one that makes me want to go back and read the first three in the series.
