RELEASE BLITZ & REVIEW - The Slam by Haleigh Lovell

Title: The Slam: NA Romance
Author: Haleigh Lovell
Genre: New Adult Sports Romance
Release Date: April 1, 2016

His best strokes can be found off the court.

Ender Hemsworth has been called many things:
A Cock on Legs.
Captain of Sigma Chi.
Big man on campus.
Star athlete at UC Berkeley.
And he's always scowling like someone just took a piss in his Cheerios.

Adelaide Vikander has been called one thing:
Twenty Types of Trouble.
And she likes to take the proverbial ‘piss’ in Ender’s Cheerios.

When they’re forced to live together off campus, sparks fly and panties drop.

Will Ender, the cold and unfeeling ‘Cock on Legs’ grow a torso, a head, and a warm, beating heart?

I have to say that this book seems like the typical New Adult college romance story, and yes, that is the basic premise of the story, but there are so many different layers that at the same time, it's different.

Ender Hemsworth is the typical lead male character in the story, the big man on campus, star athelete and top-ranked tennis player who can get any woman (and always does). Of course as it goes in these stories, the male is always closed off to love until he meets that one woman who changes his very existence and thoughts about love. And that's when we get to meet the lovely Aussie Adelaide, who is actually a childhood friend of Ender and his brother Edric.

When they reunite, gone is the homely looking tomboy they remember Adelaide to be, and instead we get a beautiful, athletic young woman who is in California to attend college. And this is the twist: Adelaide had Asperger's. This makes her both wonderful yet at times tiring to read. She acknowledges she has trouble understanding social cues, but she doesn't let that pigeon-hole her into being a wallflower, instead she just charges ahead with life. Adelaide learns all about navigating college life, experiencing new emotions and feelings in various social settings with intelligence and humor, and she has Ender, who is providing that constant support.

Somewhere along the way, feelings begin to change for both Adelaide and Ender, and while there is some dynamic chemistry between them, I love the fact that we got to see them start out as friends instead of just jumping into a relationship without really knowing and understanding each other. And while there are no outright declarations of love, you are left with the feeling that it's there on both sides, with the foundation being friendship.

ARC provided in exchange for honest review.
