No one would call curvy Layla Messner hot. Sweet and smart, yes, but not hot. All that changes when she meets sexy bartender Cam. This bundle contains all four of parts of the Not the Hot Chick serial featuring a BBW heroine with heart and a hero with plenty of substance beneath his seductive style. Contains hot hook-ups, bitchy neighbors, ice skating blunders and—just possibly—love to last a lifetime.

This was a quick read, I had it finished in about 90 minutes. We have Layla, a recent college graduate who ends up as wingwoman to her neighbor Jessi while they're at a local bar. What should have been a guaranteed hookup between Jessi and the bartender Cam, actually ends with Cam and Layla hooking up. And damn, it was pretty hot. Layla is self-aware that she wouldn't be able to compete against the women who are always throwing themselves at Cam, but there's nothing to stop a girl from wishing right? But at least Layla has self confidence.

Cam on the other hand, he might have started out like a d-bag, switching lanes when his guaranteed hookup with Jessi was a bust, but he's really not that bad of a guy. I liked the fact that he wasn't turned off by Layla's curviness, but instead he found her sexy. Even though they're firmly in the friend zone, they both have stronger feelings for each other, yet neither of them are aware. It takes the reappearance of two people from their past to finally get them on the right track.

While I found this entertaining, I do wish it had been longer, especially to flesh out the part of the story where Jessi comes back to town. I'm a details person, I would have liked to know why Jessi came back. I did the confrontation scene was going to be big, but it fell flat. And the fact that the guy Layla had been seeing seemingly accused Layla of injuring Jessi when he knew Jessi for all of 17 minutes just didn't sit right with me.

I was also looking for more when it came to the Paige part of the story, but that's just me looking for angst. Overall I still found this entertaining, and was even a bit shocked by the decision Layla made with Cam.

  1. Great review, Nicole! I'm such a slow reader I wish I could read a book in an hour haha. This sounds like a quick, fun read overall! :)
