![]() Nile is impressed with how easily Noelle slips into her role, managing everything for him. But his tortured artist persona wears on her fragile and frayed emotions and their working relationship is less than ideal. Only once the rest of Eton Mess arrives on location, and Noelle instantly bonds with band member Nate Bridges, do things begin to look up for Noelle. Nile, however, is far from approving of their new found friendship and his displeasure hasn't gone unnoticed. Noelle will do anything to prevent a rift in the band or damage to Nate’s friendship with Nile. The only thing she knows to do is put up walls and pull away. Will Nate stand up and fight for Noelle? Can Noelle fight the darkness that threatens to swallow her whole? Or will their love be forever drowned by the undertow? |

This was my first time reading Lorraine Britt and I enjoyed this story; I can't recall another book I've read that is similar to this story, so that is always a bonus. But, there comes a point when the whole brooding main character broods just a bit too much, and that is the case with Nile. It's no wonder the working relationship between Noelle and Nile gets to the point that it does. By the time Nate is introduced, he's like a breath of fresh air for both Noelle and the story. And that is when it gets even more angsty.
It does take a while for feelings to settle down for everyone and accept the new reality, until Noelle suffers yet another devastating loss, one that she just might not recover from. And with that, we see a whole new side to Nate, and I'm sure anyone who's read this book will agree that his actions are completely reprehensible. If he was a real person, I probably would have nut-punched him. I was even more surprised who was responsible for making sure everyone got the help that was needed and how this part of the story played out. I'm actually quite interested in seeing what's going to happen for the rest of the band as they navigate their way towards a HEA.

Rhys began to strum his guitar, finding a bluesy melody and going with it. And then Noelle opened her mouth and began to sing. She sounded like an angel—a sweet, Southern, sultry angel. I got lost in the vision of her, at the scene playing out before me. She was singing a song she had written, a song she had obviously written about me. Her eyes stayed locked on mine the entire time. I couldn’t believe she was doing this. She was making it known to everyone in the room that she wanted me, that she loved me. I knew this hadn’t been easy for her and I felt both proud and cherished.
She bounded off the stage as quickly as she had taken it and claimed her seat again next to Chris. Before I could even do more than hug her, Zach was pulling on my arm, dragging me to get ready to take the stage again. Rhys finished his last song and then moved to again sit with Noelle and Chris. I noticed another round of drinks being set in front of them, with them obviously making a celebratory toast of Noelle’s performance. I couldn’t take my eyes off her.
