While this is the first book in a new series, it does help to read Ms. Mykel's Prescott family series to have an understanding of Grace and Sawyer's history and the secondary characters who are featured in this story.
Sawyer Meadows is a homicide detective in Salt Lake City and is best friends with Grace Dewey, who is close friends with Sawyer's sister Sydney. Their history is a bit backwards, but they were able to make the friendship work, especially as Sawyer really "sees" Grace and is the calming presence she needs. Grace is soothing balm for Sawyer, who is slowly being worn down by the nature of his job; he loves it, but just knowing what humans are capable of doing to each other is beginning to break him down. I also love Sawyer's relationship with his family, he's the big brother you want to have.
They're both so perfect for each other, it's no wonder Sydney kept trying to get them to realize it. This is a fantastic friends-to-lovers story, that while on the shorter side lengthwise, Ms. Mykel is still able to paint a vivid picture for you while you're reading it.
