NEW RELEASE & REVIEW TOUR - Lucian Divine by Renee Carlino

luciandivine_03-1-1-1

“My guardian angel is a drunk.”

Evelyn Casey's life is at a standstill. She's in her mid-twenties, struggling with the dating scene in San Francisco. Nothing seems to be working out, and she’s starting to think that she’ll live out her days in her crummy apartment with her overbearing roommate, Brooklyn. It's absurd, but sometimes Evey longs for a guardian angel to show up and save the day.

And then he does. Seriously. His name is Lucian and he's a guardian angel, been on the job for two thousand years. His sudden presence in her life is both good—he's brilliant, witty, and warm—and bad—he's brilliant, witty, warm, and hot as ----. But as perfect as Lucian seems, he’s got problems of his own. He’s taken up drinking and he’s brazenly inserted himself into Evey’s life, going against the greatest cosmic law ever created.

For Evey, the rules are simple: You are not allowed to hook up with your guardian angel. But sometimes fulfilling your destiny requires a leap of faith, a confrontation with God.

Yes, God as in God.

This was my first Renee Carlino read and I loved every word in this book. What do you do when the person you know you're meant to be with is off limits to you? This is the quandary Lucian finds himself in. He finds himself in love with Evey with every fiber of his celestial being, so much to the point that he's breaking every rule that guardian angels are supposed to adhere to.

I thoroughly enjoyed Lucian's character: he's a bit cocky, but not arrogant. He takes his role of being Evey's guardian angel very seriously, even after the changes he experiences once he admits his feelings for Evey. But there are serious consequences for the choice he's made.

Evey is a young woman who, like most of society, is looking to be successful in both her personal and professional lives. She's got confidence, despite the often frequent remarks and actions made by her so-called best friend of forever Brooklyn (I really didn't like Brooklyn's character). It doesn't take long for Evey to realize that Lucian is her forever, but how long will forever be is anybody's guess. Evey is determined that their relationship will work, even after Lucian becomes resigned about what the future holds for them.
