Another beautiful story by Katy Regnery, I love how she's putting a spin on the classic fairy tales we grew up with. What happens when you buck tradition and go against what's expected of you? And what happens when the one you love with all your heart can't be yours? Unfortunately for Laire and Erik, this is exactly what happens with them after that one summer they spent together. Years later they find themselves in the same orbit, but will they finally get their HEA?
The first part of the book had a lighthearted, carefree type feel to it. I loved seeing Erik's and Laire's relationship during that summer.
And then it happens. As she always does, Ms. Regnery manages to pull your heartstrings so taut you fear they might snap clean out of your chest. The emotions start seeping in as the end of summer draws close and the events that lead up to the devastating break for Erik and Laire; my heart broke for all that Laire had to endure. Do you know how hard it is to try and not cry when you already can't breathe well because you're suffering with the flu? It's pretty damn hard I tell ya! What got me even more was Erik. First, thank goodness he was NOTHING like his parents. He always knew that Laire is and will always be his forever.
The road to an HEA for Laire and Erik is not easy; there is so much for them to overcome, misunderstandings and secrets galore. But if it's true love, you will fight for and do what you need to do in order to have a chance at life with the one you know is the other half of your soul. This story is mesmerizing, painted in a gloriously haunted yet beautiful way and you will find yourself lost within the first few swipes of your e-reader.
