VIRTUAL TOUR REVIEW - Not in My Wildest Dreams (McKenna #2) by Jamie Hollins

NOT IN MY WILDEST DREAMS
McKenna Series #2
Jamie Hollins
Releasing Feb 7th, 2017

It really sucks to be in love with someone who sees you as nothing more than a friend. Darcy Owens knows this from personal experience. From the moment she met Sean McKenna as a wary ten-year-old, he’s owned her heart. So when he asks for her help with an important construction project, she can’t say no.

Building a boutique hotel on Boston’s waterfront is a career-making opportunity, and Sean needs Darcy’s interior design expertise. She’s incredibly talented, and there is no one he trusts more. He knows he can always count on his childhood friend, but doesn’t know why he’s thinking about her tight skirts and blue eyes instead of tight deadlines and blueprints.

When Sean and Darcy’s excitement about their work turns into an entirely different kind of excitement, it’s a sexy surprise. But they soon realize that building a new relationship is more challenging than building a new hotel, especially when life-long habits and old insecurities create cracks in the foundation.

For Ms. Hollins' second book, I feel like she did a good job with the story, who doesn't enjoy a good friends-to-lovers romance? And even though this is the second book in the series, you don't feel lost if you haven't read the first book (which I hadn't, but plan to).

I liked how the characters were developed, but I have to admit that while I liked Darcy at the start of the book, but somewhere along the way she began to seriously irritate me. Actually, I know the exact part where I felt my thoughts toward her change: her meltdown after karaoke. Now, I'm the type of person who immediately thinks "no one forced you to go through with it", especially given what we learn about her early childhood. And the way she read Sean the riot act seemed so over-the-top. I realize her emotions were running on high, but to me her reaction seemed a bit extreme.

I like Sean's character; he's serious when he needs to be as it applies to his career, but knows how to let loose and have fun (and I want that T-Rex shirt he was wearing!). Of course he's caught off guard with Darcy's admission, so I get his reaction, it made sense to me. The fact that he truly valued his friendship with Darcy is special, but it took a visit from the one person least expected to put everything into perspective for him when it comes to his feelings for Darcy.

I always say the road to a HEA isn't smooth, but my goodness, Sean's and Darcy's road was pretty filled with bumps and potholes! I liked the epilogue, but I was expecting something a bit more with the ending to their story. But I'm looking forward (already lol) to the next book, I have a feeling it's going to be a good one.
