I was so damn excited when this book hit my e-reader, cause after the ending of Defiant Queen, I couldn't wait to find out what was going to happen, and this book didn't disappoint. We get more flashbacks into Mount's past, and we learn how it was that he came to be the king of New Orleans' underworld (the scene we get would definitely send a clear message). There are a few questions from the previous books that are answered in this installment, along with a couple of surprises that had me gasping in shock. We also get something of a role reversal with Keira and Lachlan: she becomes more assertive and learns to stand her ground, and there are certain areas where we see Lachlan soften emotionally. There are a couple of moments when he reverts to his Mount personality, but those moments are justified, you know, in the grand scheme of things. I loved how the book ended on a positive note, and while I'm sad that this is the end of Lachlan's and Keira's story, I'm hoping we'll get a book somewhere down the line for Magnolia, and maybe even Temperance.
