I thought this was an unusual book in that the main character is a romance author, who wasn't looking to be a romance author, who also doesn't believe in the soul-consuming type of love, who meets a man at a book event who just might be the person to prove her wrong about love, and the events and emotions she experiences when she least expects it. I liked the chemistry between Katie and Bates; he's just the man to show Katie how her perceptions about love just might actually be wrong. He's honest and upfront, and won't take no for an answer (but not in an creepy or possible felony way).
As the story starts, you instantly get a read on Katie that leaves you wondering just what on earth happened to her throughout her life that has her so incredibly jaded that she can't even see herself the way others see her. Talk about being down on yourself! I loved seeing the changes in Katie as she spends more time with Bates, she begins to see herself the way others see her, and that was fantastic to see. Plenty of sexual tension, humor, witty dialogue and the right amount of angst makes this one great read!
