I loved that there’s PLENTY of history between Doc and Juliette, and not all of that history is good, but that angst is not overdone or cheesy in any way, it’s events that could (and probably has) affected any of us readers IRL. Unfortunately, some of that angst and heartbreak is courtesy of Juliette’s father; there have been more than a few characters I’ve read over the years that make me want to throat punch them and Juliette’s father is at the top of the list. Without giving away too much, Juliette’s father eventually gets his comeuppance and it’s awesome lol.
I found myself emotionally invested in the rebuilding of the connection between Juliette and Doc, even more so the relationship between Doc and the son he didn’t know about (see my complaint about Juliette’s father lol). Watching these two men getting to know each other was wonderful and bittersweet all at the same time. Of course, if you’ve read a Melissa Foster book before, you know there’s going to be at least one plot twist thrown in that flips the story on its axis and the one in this particular story hit me right in the feels.
The ONLY thing I didn’t like about this book is that it had to end lmao. It’s a beautifully written story about the power of true love, healing after heartache and learning to be happy in your new normal.
